Membership Eligibility

To become a member of the Northwestern Energy Employees Federal Credit Union, a person must be associated with one of the following groups listed under “Membership Eligibility” and meet the criteria defined by the National Credit Union Association (NCUA). NCUA separately defines "members of the immediate family" and "members of the household" as follows:

"Immediate family" is defined as a grandparent, parent, spouse, sibling, child, or grandchild. For the purposes of this definition, immediate family member includes adopted children, step-parents, step-children, and step-siblings.

"Household members" are defined as persons living in the same residence and who maintain a single economic unit. This includes any person who is a permanent member of and participates in the maintenance of the household, including family members, domestic partners, foster children, and legal guardian relationships. While roommates in a single residence would meet this definition, a fraternity, sorority, or nursing home is excluded from this definition.

Others who are eligible for membership are spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of this credit union; employees of this credit union; persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the listed employments; members of their immediate families or household; and, organizations of such persons.

The following constitutes NorthWestern Energy Employees FCU charter of membership:

• Employees of Touch America Holdings, Inc. and the following wholly-owned subsidiaries: Entech LLC., Touch America Inc. and Tetragenics Company, who work in the state of Montana

• Employees of NorthWestern Energy who work in the state of Montana

• Employees of Westmoreland Coal Company who work in the state of Montana and at the Jewett Mine in Texas

• Employees of PPL Montana LLC who work in the state of Montana

• Employees of Continental Energy, a subsidiary of BBI Power Corporation, who work in the state of Montana

• Employees of EnCana who work in the state of Montana

• Formerly, employees of the Montana Power Company and its wholly owned subsidiaries, Butte Aero Sales, Western Energy, Canadian Montana Gas, and Altana Exploration Company, who work in the state of Montana

• Employees of the Colstrip Public School District who work in Colstrip, Montana

• Employees of the following companies who work in Colstrip, Montana:

  • Big Sky Coal Company

  • Colstrip Electric, Inc.

  • Colstrip Medical Center

  • Fortin Construction, Inc.

  • Rosebud Power Plant

  • Sagebrush Industries, Inc.

  • Colstrip Ambulance Service

  • Power Maintenance Resources, Inc.

• Employees of Athena Energy, LLC, Butte, MT

• Employees of The Archibald Company, Butte, MT

• Employees of the City of Colstrip, Colstrip, MT

• Employees of the Butte Country Club, Butte, MT

• Employees of Jefferson Energy Trading (JETCO) L.L.C., who work in Butte, Montana

• Members of record of Mission Arts Employees Federal Credit Union

• Employees of the St. Labre Indian School Educational Association who work in or are paid from Ashland Montana
